The popular Ladies English Open was held at The Oxfordshire Golf Club, on July 4-6, 2008, following a move from its previous home at Chart Hills in Kent.

Both courses are owned by the Leaderboard Group and after three years at the Kent venue it was decided to move to a more central location.

The event was won by Englands Rebecca Hudson with a 3 round score of 10 underpar. Well Done Rebecca!

Rebecca Hudson defied weather conditions at the final day of the The Oxfordshire Ladies English Open. (LEO) to finish eight under par for the round, ten under par for the tournamant and claim her second tournament victory in just three weeks.

Hudson was not put off by stormy conditions on the last day – at one point play was suspended during thunder and lightning – as she failed to drop a shot and recorded eight birdies to card a final round of 64, finishing a single shot ahead of Reid.

The victory is Hudson’s third win on the Ladies European Tour, and seals back-to-back wins following her triumph at the Tenerife Ladies Open.

A jubilant Hudson said: “Back-to-back wins, I can’t believe it.

“To win in your home country is just fantastic. It’s just wonderful. To have two English players at the top is something special as well.

“At the beginning of the day I knew that someone would have to shoot low to catch Mel but I didn’t think this would happen. I hit some good golf shots and played the golf course the way I wanted to.”

The duo headed up a strong contingent of up-and-coming British golfers, with six of the top ten heralding from the UK.

The LEO returned to The Oxfordshire after a four year stint at its sister club, Chart Hills, Kent.
Both courses are owned by the Leaderboard Group and the tournament’s continued success is down to Leaderboard’s commitment to promoting women’s golf and the Ladies European Tour.
Paul Gibbons, chairman of the Leaderboard Group, said: “This has been a fantastic tournament and congratulations to Rebecca on a stunning final round which gave her a deserved victory.

“It’s great to see the English contingent featuring so strongly in the Ladies English Open particularly as Leaderboard have been such strong supporters of women’s golf over the years.
“I’d also like to give a big thank you to all the spectators in attendance over the three days, particularly those that braved Sunday’s conditions – who I’m sure felt it was worth it given the thrilling finish – and we look forward to welcoming everyone back next year.”
