The Venue
The Oxfordshire is one of the most magnificent courses for both professional play and spectating in Europe - built specifically to host championship golf.
Opened in 1993, The Oxfordshire was designed by world-renowned golf course designer Rees Jones and has hosted a number of prestigious tournaments:
- Andersen Consulting World Championship of Golf: 1995 & 1996
- Benson & Hedges International Open: 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999
- Ladies English Open: 1995 & 1996
The impressive clubhouse building is based on 19th century English architecture and occupies a total area of almost 40,000 square feet and commands a splendid view of the course.
The Golf Course
Designed by Rees Jones, The Oxfordshire is considered to be one of the most exciting courses in the country - a pristine American-style parkland course that offers the ultimate tactical challenge across water. The strategically-contoured holes blend naturally into the surrounding countryside to provide a challenging round of golf. With four lakes and 135 bunkers, the course makes full use of the terrain and the natural elements to provide characteristics similar to those of a links course.
A relative rarity in Britain, The Oxfordshire has been designed specifically as a venue for international golf tournaments with all the required infrastructure and with excellent spectator viewing.
